Solar PV Safety in Design, Installation and Maintenance

TGS-2025057545

Course Overview

About this course

In this course, participants will be introduced to the critical safety considerations in the design, installation, and maintenance of Solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems. With the growing adoption of solar PV across residential, commercial, industrial, and floating solar projects, the importance of system reliability, regulatory compliance, and fire and electrical safety cannot be overstated.

  1. Participants will gain insights into the driving forces behind the need for such training—including government sustainability mandates, workplace safety enforcement, and increasing expectations around green energy compliance. Through real-world case studies, best industry practices, and regulatory frameworks developed in collaboration with SCDF and SERIS, learners will be guided to close performance gaps in risk assessment, safety protocol implementation, and maintenance strategies.
  2. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to develop site-specific safety plans, comply with Singapore's regulatory requirements, and implement best practices for fire prevention and system integrity in solar PV installations.

What you'll learn

In this course, participants will explore:

  1. The fundamentals of workplace safety in Solar PV installations, including hazard identification and site-specific risk management plans.
  2. Fire safety requirements and approval processes mandated by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) for rooftop PV systems.
  3. Design principles for safe PV system installations, including grounding, surge protection, and fire suppression mechanisms.
  4. Inspection and maintenance practices to detect early warning signs of failure and ensure long-term system reliability.
  5. How to address common performance gaps such as non-compliance with fire safety codes, lack of standardized procedures, and limited understanding of safety-integrated system design.

Minimum entry requirement

• Basic knowledge of PV

• Basic numeracy skills to perform calculations and analyses

• Basic ability to read and write English to understand course materials, participate in discussions and complete the assessments

• Possess at least 1-year of work-related experience or tertiary (technical) education level
